Another year, and good news!
Despite the challenges we face we now have 266 pupils, seven classrooms and nine teachers, including three new Grade 5 teachers for pupils aged 11-15. We’ve been working hard with teachers on improving learning and lots of training has been happening.
Extra ‘catch up’ reading tutorials are about to begin as due to the pandemic, many pupils have fallen behind. All our children and teachers have been trained how to use the new water station, jerry cans and in hand washing which is very important in Ethiopia. It will save a lot of children having to walk along way to the village well. We have partnered up with another local school to share expertise and ideas and this is working really well.
Fingers crossed we can start phase 3 building soon but at the moment building materials are far too expensive. This will include two more classrooms, a library, staffroom and Directors room. The school field will be cleared of stones and we can put up football and volleyball posts!
Our new donation site is now up and running and we’d like to thank everyone for their kind donations. This includes Propelo Education who are kindly now sponsoring our school uniform.
We will be giving two presentations about our project in the Spring:
Grewelthorpe Village Hall (one hour talk): Ethiopia: Cradle of Humanity. Building a school in Ethiopia through a pandemic, civil war and monsoons…. - Weds February 23rd @7.30pm - Pay on the door - £3 (includes wine/soft drink)
Tapas and Tales - (10 minute talk) The Arts Hub, Ripon - Weds March 16th - tickets on Eventbrite
Maybe we will see you there!
