Our Impact

Since our project began in 2018, and despite COVID-19, we have constructed and resourced eight classrooms, provided secured school fencing, a hand-washing station and a gender-separate toilet block. We have provided professional training for teachers and school leaders. We have introduced regular monitoring and evaluation systems. We have provided catch-up tutorials for children and training in basic English skills.

Our impact to date -

  • Access to education for over 355 children

  • Attainment outcomes which are some of the highest in the region

  • Increased attainment of girls

  • Increase attendance and enrolment of boys and girls

  • Increased attendance of teachers

  • Decreased drop-out rate

Feedback

‘I love going to the new school. I can see my friends and I work hard. I want to be a teacher when I leave school. I am teaching my grandmother to read and write.’

‘We are delighted to work in partnership with the UK on this innovative project. Our local and regional area is very lucky to have a brand new school. It is a great environment through which to develop the teaching and learning process. We would welcome the CEO to come and work for us!’

‘The school is a miracle for our community. We now have good classrooms, educational materials, school uniforms, bags and exercise books. Before this we could not do this ourselves because we are poor and have no knowledge of how to do it.’

Parent

‘Having this new school means our children like the school and are much more interested in learning now. Even children at different schools want to come and register at Gendit.’

Parent

‘Students at Gendit school have demonstrated rapid grade progression compared to other schools in the region. The quality of teaching and motivation of pupils has increased and pupil drop out declined. There has been improved attendance of female students and a clean and pleasant learning environment.’
