Here are three of the children who attend our school, Gendit Elementary. Without your support their place isn’t guaranteed. Please follow the link below to our charity partner to sponsor a child. Anyone wanting to sponsor one of our children will need to specifically write Gendit Elementary School in the ‘any additional notes’ section.

 

Sponsorship facts in brief

*   £19 per month for each child 

*   Funding goes directly to the mother, father or guardian of the child towards essentials, e.g. rent, food, clothes

*   Educational materials are provided at the beginning of each school year

*   Emergency fund in case of loss of job or illness in the family; costs of medical care

*   Additional school support in the form of tutoring and mentoring

*   Each year the sponsor receives an update on the child’s progress in school, and a letter or drawing from the child

*Dedicated staff based in Gondar support and monitor the programme, maintaining close contact with the families and paying them regular visits

A nine year old girl - one of a family of seven. She has four brothers and sisters. Her parents are farmers. The family live in a house made of mud, straw and wood. They collect water from a hand dug well and use a bush toilet. She sleeps on a bed made from mud, stone and straw. She is a pupil at Gendit Elementary School which is 30 minutes walk from her home. She enjoys school very much.

A thirteen years old boy. He is one of a family of five and has two brothers. His mother makes and sells bread and beer and the family do some farming. The family live in a house made of mud, straw and wood. They collect tap water in a jerry can to drink and use a bush toilet. They have no bed, blanket or mattress but sleep on a bed made from stone, mud and straw. He is a pupil at Gendit Elementary School which is 25 minutes walk from home. He enjoys school very much.

The family also hand knit dresses but their eye sight is failing so this is no longer a source of income. The family live in a house made of mud, straw and wood. They collect water from a hand dug well and use a bush toilet. She sleeps on a bed made from mud, stone and straw. She is a pupil at Gendit Elementary School which is 40 minutes walk from her home. She enjoys school very much.
